Tyson Fury: "I Came to Riyadh to Inflict Pain"

Former heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury skipped the traditional open workout and interview with DAZN, declaring that his sole purpose in Riyadh is to inflict as much pain as possible in his rematch with WBC, WBA, and WBO champion Oleksandr Usyk, set to take place on December 21.

Unconventional Open Workout

During the open workout, Fury stepped into the ring and put on his gloves, only to take them off moments later after bowing to the crowd. When asked questions by the host, he responded briefly and repeatedly, promising "a lot of pain, damage, and destruction."

His trainer, SugarHill Steward, assured fans that Fury’s behavior is entirely normal for him. "It was a light workout," Steward explained. "We showed all we needed to. Tyson is simply ready for the fight, just as I am. He’s always been a bit goofy and likes to entertain, but that’s just another side of him. He’s 100% prepared." Steward also confirmed that Fury’s father, John Fury, will not be in his corner for this fight.

Full Focus Ahead of the Fight

In an interview with ESPN, Tyson Fury emphasized his total focus leading up to the fight. To prepare, he cut himself off from all distractions, including his family, for three months.

"I haven’t been distracted. I have a big task ahead of me — I’m facing a man who’s going to try to knock my brains out and take everything I’ve got. I’ve stepped away from my usual life and been alone with myself — no phone, no shaving, just look at this beard. I’ve gone feral."

Fury also noted that he’s more serious than ever before. "Saturday’s fight is serious business, so I’m serious," he added. "Expect a serious ‘Gypsy King.’ I have one goal. There’ll be plenty of time for fun after the fight, but for the first time in my life, I’m fully locked in."

Oleksandr Usyk’s Open Workout

In contrast to Fury, Oleksandr Usyk held an open workout showcasing his shadowboxing skills and dancing to a song performed by a Ukrainian singer. When asked to comment on Fury’s peculiar behavior, Usyk simply replied, "Fine." In response to a question about whether he’s better at boxing or dancing, he joked with a smile, "Dancing."
