Shawn Brady Challenges Leon Edwards
The fifth-ranked UFC welterweight, Shawn Brady, is ready to travel to London and face former champion Leon Edwards in the main event of UFC Fight Night 255.
Brady shared his thoughts in an interview with sports journalist Ariel Helwani.
"If you look at how things are unfolding, the rankings, and who’s available, it’s clear that a fight with Leon makes the most sense," Brady said. "Historically, I’ve always liked to travel and test myself. If you look at my first loss, it happened when I went to fight Belal, and since then I’ve become a completely different fighter."
"I just want to prove to myself that I can go into enemy territory and win a fight. My wife is due in February, and March is just around the corner, but for a title contender fight with Leon in his hometown, I’m ready to make that sacrifice. If I win this fight, I think I’ll be in line for a title shot. It’s worth the risk to fight Leon at home."
Earlier, Leon Edwards announced that he would headline another major British event for the UFC on March 22.
In July of this year, the British fighter lost his UFC welterweight title after a unanimous decision loss to Belal Muhammad at UFC 304 in Manchester.
In October 2022, Shawn Brady suffered the first loss of his career, being stopped via TKO in the second round by Belal Muhammad. However, he bounced back with two consecutive wins, submitting Kelvin Gastelum with a kimura and defeating Gilbert Burns by unanimous decision.
